It's Maori language week and there are a few school-wide activities happening. One of these is chalk drawing. Each class had a space to write in Te Reo Maori, draw Maori patterns or symbol to celebrate the week. Yesterday we found a strip of concrete and drew koru patterns and many of these represented our families.
On Monday there was a launch of the new Inquiry - Where do I stand in the world? - which had a range of activities and the children participated in 2-3 of these. These were a range of 'Kiwi' activities and some had a Maori aspect.
Tomorrow night is the Hangi. This is an activity that is on the Ilam School Passport that the children have been given. There are many more activities on the passport which you can have fun doing with your children. None of it is compulsory. They are just a range of fun activities based around the typical 'Kiwi' way of living. I have suggested to the children to keep these in their bag so that they can have access to them at school and at home. Many of these activities can be done at school during the inquiry which will continue into next term also. See the photo below for the passport activities if you haven't seen them yet.
